Special Guests Friday!

As we know, we are leaving for DC in a couple of days. I thought I would take this opportunity to select a few students to facilitate class today. It will be a project in MS Word making a flier about our trip to DC using your particular subject matter from Government class.

We will find out the details from out guests. I will be observing from a students perspective. You as well as your guest facilitator will be graded on project completion. We only have this class that will be shortened by 5 minutes because of the sports rally.

Just be yourselves and have fun!

You will be graded so pay attention and work quickly.

We will have a fantastic time in Washington DC if it went half as well as it did on Community service day! I had the pleasure of working with a great group that worked hard and accomplished much!

It's a Wrap

This is what needs to be concluded by the end of class on Wednesday (testing through a monkey wrench into the works):

About Publisher should be included in your project in the front/back matter. Will you have included it in your table of contents I wonder... Did you come up with a song list? Did you include any pictures or illustrations?

Hand in project folder:

1. TextEdit first page of book:you name is already on it.
2. About Publisher.
3. Hand drawn cover layout.
4. Digital cover layout printed.
5. library research typed.
6. project critique.
7. sample book 2 per page—print 1—16 (if you have back matter let me know)

Demo Day and Wrap

Demo and then we need to wrap it up. Monday we will be handing the project in and I will tell you exactly what needs to be included (digital and hardcopy) on Monday.

The Substitutes will be taking pictures of classroom seating (so sit in your assigned seats!) They will also be looking around for students who are prepared with their class requirements. The Subs will not be giving out information about these tasks they will be doing for me...

Checklist:

Today you need to: (this needs to be completed before starting next step)

1. Make sure you are done with basic formatting—each chapter in its own section
2. Odd and even page setup with headers and footers for each
   
3. Page numbers correct
4. Remove extraneous page numbers
5. Justify all text
6. ***Should not be working on hand drawn layout of book cover!

Wednesday:

Book Project

Today should allow us to finish the basic format.
Show the book I found over the weekend. Answer any questions you might have about today and Wednesday.

Wednesday I'm chaperoning a 7th grade trip and will not be at school.

Agenda

Continue experimenting, but let's also do a couple of additional format edits:

1. In the header or footer add page numbers, title of the book in the Verso and Chapter number in the Recto. *Hint* Your book text is currently all in one section. Your book will need to be in many sections if you want to change header/footer to be different.
2. I would also like a line in the footer and your name under the line.
3. I would like  each new chapter title to start 10 lines from the top of the page and text to start 3 lines below chapter title.
4. Single space everything.
5. Text should be justified.

Have it your way...

1. Print a copy of your textEdit version of the book and print 1st page only—of course you will put your name, date, and group on the top. Store in a folder —I will be supplying you.
2. Copy and paste your textEdit version into MS Word and Save as: grouplastnamebook
3. Go to work, make it your own, play around with different styles, experiment, if you need HELP search the Help function in Word.
4. Make a list of things you have tried and if it worked or didn't and any problems you've encountered along the way.

Field Trip! Library

1. Today, I want everybody to have a digital copy of their book (for the most part that will be The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn) in a TextEdit document Saved As GroupLastnameHuckFinn.
2. Field trip to the Library to study different books and how they were designed and decorated.

Field trip:
Look at 2-3 books and take notes on things you liked or don't about each books:

• Page numbering
• About the Author
• Copyright page
• Acknowledgment page
• Dedication page
• Chapter distinctions
• Covers
• Styles in the Header Footer
• Front and Back matter
• Anything you might want to have in your book design.
• Type up notes: MLA whatever isn't finished is homework.
