Can you believe we've already been through 4 weeks? Summers here again!!!
(Well it felt that way this weekend with the heat!)

• REinstall Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor (which will be referred as TTTT on the blog from now on for simplicity sake)
  • remove old TTTT (including shortcut icon in DOCK, Ten Thumbs student folder in HOUSE, TTTT application in APPLICATIONS folder)
  • Pull new application over from SHARED computer/Imac mini's Teacher/Sysadmin Folder
  • Launch new application—password
  • Start over with username

*Sports update: Jets still undefeated and the Yankees SWEPT the Red Sox right out of the Bronx and clinched the AL East Division title! Good weekend for sports! Even the NY Giants won! (Special sorry out to all the fans who root for someone other that NY teams...)

Homework: 1 page paper "about me" essay. Hand written, to be handed in, tell about yourself—example subject matter: things you like or don't, your family, hobbies, things that you would like to share with the class. Due by Friday. We will be using these essays for typing practice.

Thursday

Agenda:

• Definitions
• Practice logging in.
• Set up and define our workstation: Desktop, Dock, Finder, Preferences (System, Finder, TextEdit), TextEdit

Interface: A go between. A computing a device or program enabling a user to communicate with a computer.
—a device or program for connecting two items of hardware or software so that they can be operated jointly or communicate with each other. Think of an ATM machine—it allows a user to connect to the bank and make transactions.

Finder—Mr. Smiley Face, the window we find things on our computer in, an application that's always running. The Interface to Mac OSX.

Desktop—the space on your monitor that everything sits on. The working area of a computer screen  containing icons representing items such as files and a wastebasket.

Preferences—the way WE would like things to be, how WE prefer them. 3 Examples: System, Finder, Application.

Path—the course or direction, in line to find something.

Naming Conventions—rules associated with assigning a name to an object

With regard to the research Homework—Just do the best you can and we will discuss it in class.
