Dear Substitute Teacher,
The goal of the week I'm away is for most students to learn 100% of the keyboard using Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor. Students will track and record their results daily. They have practiced group troubleshooting and know that they have a large roll in the responsibility for their Class/Teams success. There have been many students out sick that will need help and the students that were in class have been given the tools and guidance to be successful in this endeavor.
Please take attendance with the attendance sheets supplied in folders with respective period letters on them and put them in Corinne's box. Thank you so much for this extra burden that is placed on you!
Every day students will come into class and:
- Log into their computers
- Make sure everyone is able to connect
- Take notes on the daily agenda on my class blog (updates to the lesson can be found there. www.mrribaudo.typepad.com)
- Start Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor and the Secretary will record results. Friday's sample is in the folder. (class folders are in the top draw of the brown filing cabinet in the front of the classroom.)
- Then they will proceed to their Ten Thumbs lessons (learning a new letter every other time they are asked)
- Students should be given 2 minute stretch breaks every 25 minutes or so (if they don't take it seriously then you can omit.)
- Remind them about the importance of proper Ergonomics positioning by saying Mr. Ribaudo wants to remind you to: "sit up straight, feet flat on the floor, monitor adjusted to the proper height, keyboard centered and arms symmetrical."
- Last ten minutes of each class they can work on their speed and accuracy with a typing game in ten thumbs (they only time the typing games should be played.)
****************************************************************************************************************
**They should work quietly and be focused on completing 100 percent of the keyboard by the time I come back. Those who are finished should continue with the lessons and practice speed and accuracy. If it asks if they want to print out a certificate say no, when I get back we will.
**I have taught them to troubleshoot and handle most problems that come up. They are to sit in their assigned seats unless they can't fix whatever problem I can't foresee at this time.
**They should problem solve together and help each other when someone is stuck or has been absent or just needs help.
